Raiatea

Raiatea is the second largest Tahitian island and shares her lagoon with sister island Taha’a.  You’ll find ancient Polynesian archaeological sites here along with a green lushness to this mountainous island.  This is a good location for sailing and deep sea fishing, and several charter yacht companies depart from the marina in the small town of Uturoa.  The only lodgings on this island are simple and basic; if you would like more luxurious accommodations, Taha’a is an easy boat launch away.

Getting There

Frequent 40-minute flights operate from Moorea and Papeete, and 15 minute flights from Huahine and Bora Bora. Yachts can be chartered out of Raiatea, with or without crew.

Things to Do

Raiatea is a fun island to explore by rental car or hired driver. Hiking, deep sea fishing, sailing, and scuba diving opportunities are to be had as well.

Helpful Tips

There aren’t that many sandy beaches on this island, and it is a quiet, laid back pace.
