Tikehau

Tikehau

This atoll island is part of the Tuamotu Atolls, and sits very near Rangiroa.  Tikehau is a sandy coral ring of islands with a lagoon in the middle.  The lagoon is brimming with the most amazing fish imaginable.  This is true snorkel heaven.  The island is also known for its pink sandy beaches, and has a bird sanctuary that is definitely worth a day visit (by boat).  You will find most of your daylight hours happily snorkeling and swimming among the curious fish.

Good to Know

Getting There

Flights from Papeete with a 55-minute flight time, and 20 minute flights from Rangiroa. Once at the airport, you will have a boat launch to take you to one of the two resorts on the island.

Things to Do

Snorkeling doesn’t get better than this. Resorts will also run excursions by boat to Bird Island, and to a motu picnic to see the pink sand beaches. Bring your Kindle and your sunscreen.

Helpful Tips

Quiet, laid back, and sparsely populated, this is the ultimate “get away from it all” destination to unplug.
